Annie Elizabeth LIGHTLEY

Annie Elizabeth Lightley died at the age of 7 months. Her death certificate gives the cause of death as bronchitis and diarrhoea, but according to descendants of her father George William Lightley she died after being given the wrong medicine for whooping cough. The doctor apparently smashed the bottle on the floor to destroy the evidence, and although the police were called they took no notice of the complaint. This incident contributed to the family's decision to emigrate to Australia.
