[Herzl and Peshe] Herzl Margolinsky was born in Filipow, Poland in 1856. His first wife, Mariam Gibianski, died after they had been married for only about a year, perhaps as a result of childbirth, and their son Judel Wolf did not survive infancy. His second wife was Peshe Leah Rosengold, with whom he had at least seven children. Herzl came to London in 1898 or 1899, but did not approve of local Jewish standards of orthodoxy and therefore returned to Filipow, where he ran a "piwiarnie" (retail brewery and bar). Early in the second world war he, Peshe, and their daughters Sylvia and Toba were transported to Lukow, in the Lublin province of Poland, and they all died in the concentration camp at Maidanek.
