[Moshe] Moshe (Morris), later known as Charles, married Rosalie Niedzwietski in France. Their first three children were born in Paris before they settled in London about 1890. There they brought up a family of 11 children, changing their name to Maurice (although they seem to have used the two names interchangeably for a while). Morris's occupation is given as rag sorter on his son Elie's birth certificate in 1895, in the 1901 census it is given as house painter, and by the time his daughter Sarah married in 1915, he had become a metal dealer. London phone books from 1915-1938 record him as a marine store dealer.
